Last week there was a special service in the far north that has marked the 175th year, to celebrate Hone Heke cutting down the flagpole at kororareka. At the 8th of July 1844 Hone Heke had become concerned with the Crown's over Maori case following the Treaty of Waitangi. Being signed by the British Crown and Maori chiefs in the 6th of February 1840.
