Did you know in New Zealand every single year generally 15,000 earthquakes appear in New Zealand? but only about 100 or 150 of these earthquakes are large enough to deal any damage to the surrounding buildings. A decade ago, at 4:35am on the 4th of September 2010, residents in the city of Christchurch awoke to a 7.1 magnitude earthquake.
I am a Year 7 student at Ruapotaka School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Room 1 and my teacher is Mr Reid

Sugar
Today for tech we were learning about sugar. We had to copy down the information that was on the white bored.
After that we descends more things about sugar. Did you know that a average person eats 6g of sugar and a New Zealand person eats 96g of sugar?
We read some more information about sugar, like a child is supposed to eat only 6g or they would gain wight.

Skulls
This week Wednesday for our last day of tech for the term we learned more about our bones. We also started to sketch a skull of a dog I asked Mrs Sharma if the picture was real Mrs Sharma said "I don't know" from that moment on I didn't touch it, my sketch turned out pretty good because I had help from Seleti. We read about how many bones we have and highlighted the important facts, one of those facts are when we are old we have less bones and when we are young we have 300 bones. We got told to point at the bones with the exact names. I really enjoyed sketching and we also have 4 more weeks at Mrs Sharma's class before we move on to the next tech group.

Bones and Skeletons
Last week Wednesday for tech we learnt about bones and skeletons. Our teacher told us to write down what we knew about bones, I wrote down "we have more bones when we are born. but less when we grow old". She pulled up some names about our bones, then we had to change the simple names into the scientific names. We also looked at a skeleton model and looked at fake bones and some real bones. Another fact is that the stapes is the smallest bone in our body located in our ear, and the femur is the biggest bone in our body.

Whale Count
New Zealand's very first nationwide whale count got started last weekend. The first whale enumeration will run from 9:30 until 3:30 on Saturday with help from volunteers all over the community. The plan is to design a baseline of how many marine mammals were seen along the coastline on one day, so they could compare number in the future.

Making a Light Switch
On Wednesday 17th of June we went to tech. We used the same tools, the battery and the lamp station. To change it up this time we had to use a voltmeter, a switch and clip wires. The aim was to make a circuit only with equipment we were given. My method was to double my positives to my negatives and double my negatives to my positives. The result was that when you switch the light on the voltmeter would go up and if you turn it off the voltmeter would go down. We also made our diagram about our work

Knee Deep
For our 2nd week of term 2 we were finally at school. The first book we read was called Knee Deep, it is a story about a disaster that happened in Christchurch on February 2011.
Part of the story
There were lots of collapsed buildings, chocking clouds of dust and tonnes of spilled raw sewage. For over the next six months part of the city wastewater system was fixed together but it needed to be repaired permanently. Unfortunately so did everything else in Christchurch.

Sat: Page 1 & 2
Does anyone remember the earthquake disaster at Christchurch immediately after the February 2011. Earthquake, distressed people, collapsed buildings, clouds of choking dust. What was more difficult to capture was the impact of thousands of tonnes of spilled raw sewage .Of course they people of Christchurch understood this all too well.

Saving Energy at Home
Today for tech we learned about how to save energy. For our first task we had to list the 10 things that use power in our house, I listed laptop, Chromebook, fan, PS4, and more. We also had to list the 10 places that use power I listed KFC and the Internet Cafe.
For our main subject we used a battery and wires to light up the bulb circuit, the method was to put the positive to the negative and the negative to the positive.
The result was the light turned on, we watched a video and we had to out how they saved power. I wrote you should turn the things not you're using off and to share energy so you don't use that much.

Volleyball
On Friday the 5th of June we started our first lesson of volleyball. We warmed up by running around the court two times and doing sets to our assigned partners, my partner was Sione. after doing sets we got split in to teams.
The game was called King of The Court the king is in the 4th square and each time you get beaten you verse the other team that lost. Thankfully I got picked to be in the 4th square (we were just doing sets) we destroyed the other two teams but Franks team just dominated us. At the start they were wining by three points. We only got one then at the end we lost by three them with ten points and us with seven points and we got reset back to the beginning. We were going to try to get back but then the game ended.

Going to Tech
Today on Wednesday the 27th we went to tech. After one month and three weeks of lock down, our first task was to order correctly the positive, negative and neutral things about plastic into our assigned book. We glued the facts into each of the categorises and we also helped each other out if we didn't know which fact went in to which category.
Our second task was to write if any of these plastics were recyclable (like bottles, milk containers, plastic pipping and more.) We would say yes or no if it was recyclable or not. It was our last task Mrs Sharma told us to write the major and minor change you were going to do. The changes that I am going to do is not to use plastic and pick up any plastic I see.

Digging ban off Taranaki Coast continues
Digging off the Taranaki coast is still banned, last week a mining company going by the name Trans Tasman resources went to the court to try and have some adjustments to the new rule set in place by the government. The company wanted to mine millions of tonnes of ironsands off the coast of Taranaki. However the Court of Appeal has dismissed the attempt by Trans-Tasman Resources to overturn a 2018 High Court decision.Forest and Bird chief executive Kevin Hauge said the decision was important as New Zealand considered how to rebuild its economy after the shock of the Covid-19 virus. The judge said that the “kaitiakitanga relationship between tangata whenua and the marine environment and its resources is a relevant existing interest”.

Jellyfish flock to New Zealand water
The hot water and air surrounding have contributed so there is a larger amount of jellyfish around New Zealand. Warm water had made the jellyfish come towards the shore, meaning that some swimmers had to break out in a rash known as a sea bather's eruption. In New Zealand people have been broadcasting that there is more jellyfish then usual.

Making a Salad Bowl
For our forth time at food tech we made a salad bowl. This time Texas, Fabian and I were in a team. Texas cut the cucumbers very thin, the lettuce and the carrots in finger sizes, while Fabian and I shred the chicken. We wore gloves so none of our germs got onto the chicken, and well Texas was cutting he constantly checked on our noodles so they were just right. We also had an option to put on some rice on top, after that we put on the dressing and ate!
